Revolutionary Biological Treatment Technology

Automated Chemostat Treatment™

BPC has developed a novel technology for treating wastewater that prevails over the limitations of existing and conventional technologies. The proprietary technology, Automated Chemostat Treatment (ACT), provides a potent solution for the existing challenges in wastewater treatment and is protected by a patent (ACT patent).

ACT is a unique technique for meticulous selection and culturing of bacteria from the customer’s pre-treated water. The technology is based on natural bacterial antagonism under the conditions at the customer’s site. The procedure results in enrichment of the fittest bacteria and depletion of bacteria that do not fit the water-type and on-site environmental conditions. The bacteria used in BPC system are naturally occurring, devoid of any level of alteration or genetic engineering.

Why Choose

ACT Technology

Automated Chemostat Treatment (ACT) starts with selecting the most efficient bacteria cocktail from the process effluent on BPC’s labs, once this process specific bacteria cocktail is isolated and bacteria cocktail is prepared, the bacteria in delivered to the site as a one time starter. In the bioreactor itself the cells are maintained at a very low concentration inside the bio reactor (MLSS value of around 100-400 ppm dependence on the organic load in the system.

The bacteria concentration is distributed throughout the bio reactor and they act as single cell treatment units as no aggregates are formed; this ensures that the biological oxidation process is highly effective when compared with the concentration that has to be maintained within the bio reactor. This new biological concept is based on:

  1. Pre-selecting a bacterial “consortium” to match the wastewater characteristics (pH, temperature, carbon source, etc.)
  2. Automated Chemo-stat: Monitoring multiple parameters using various sensors, analyzers, and methods developed by BPC. Integrating all these inputs enables the system to make automated online decisions ensuring stabilization of the system under inlet fluctuations and the avoidance of system upsets.
  3. Avoiding sludge recycling and maintaining a low concentration of bacteria in the bioreactors.

BPC’s ACT is a one flow system as there is no need of re-circulating sludge to maintain the required bacteria population in the bioreactor, the rate of growth of the bacteria culture within the bioreactor is always maintained at a rate equal to or higher than the rate at which bacteria culture is being washed away via the outflowing effluent.

why-act

The HRT for ACT is half of the sludge retention time, as the bacteria age in the ACT bioreactor is high, the bacteria culture is maintained in its logarithmic growth phase, and this young bacteria population ensures higher bacteria activity, ascertaining that the process is highly efficient in terms of organic contamination consumption.

one

Quality & Stability

The unique ability of rapidly generating young bacteria makes ACT the only system to instantly react towards shock loads at the inlet. Thus, ACT provides stable outlet even in high fluctuations of COD at inlet which ensures the quality and stability of the treated effluent.

two

Closed loop Automation

BPC provides a PLC based control system that processes all the parameters to control lines accurately driving site equipment. The control system automates the entire process, pre treatment, bioremediation & post treatment to enable control throughout the treatment process.

three

Low MLSS Spectrum

ACT is the only system in the world that can operate on a low MLSS range 300-900 ppm. The F/M ratio is as low as 2 which means low concentrations ensures high COD degradation. The young bacteria converts 85% of COD into CO2 & 15% to biomass which generates sludge as low as 15%.

four

Sequential Bioremediation

BPC patented Sequential Bioremediation system, the combination of the best of both worlds (low & robust biomass with high MLSS traditional reactors). This provides a cost effective solution to one of the most challenging issues - maintaining high and sustainable quality output.

five

Treatment of problematic stream

ACT technology not only treats High COD but also maintains the treatment even in high contaminant concentration like Phenols above 200 ppm, TDS less than 45000 ppm and ammonia over 200 ppm along with Cyanides & High Suplhides. The technology is capable of removing Sulphides & Phenols.

six

CAPEX & OPEX Savings

BPC provides one stop solution for the entire treatment plant. We aim to provide cost effective solutions with automation by optimizing chemical consumption throughout the process. CAPEX Savings are ensured by retrofitting the ACT into the available infrastructure.
